College for Creative Studies announces Advancing the Creative Spirit a transformational $55 million campaign for the College and Detroit CCS recently announced the $55 million "Advancing the Creative Spirit" capital campaign to support the College's $145 million redevelopment of the historic Argonaut Building. Located in Detroit's New Center, the building will be a second campus site for the College, which will also reorganize its existing campus in the Cultural Center. The revitalization project will transform the institution while providing new educational opportunities for Detroit youth and advancing the renewal of Detroit.
In recognition of a $15 million lead gift by local businessman and philanthropist A. Alfred Taubman, the building has been renamed the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education. Opening on September 8, 2009, the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education will house undergraduate and graduate programs in design, community education and outreach activities, student housing, research and professional activities in the design fields, and a new public middle and high school with a special focus on art and design. CCS's Cultural Center campus will be renamed the Walter and Josephine Ford Campus, in recognition of the couple's long-time support of the institution.
